Module Description
In this module, you’ll work in groups to develop a revision narrative that attempts to give a plausible explanation for changes Thoreau made, in revising Walden, to a passage or selection of related passages. Each group will select its own passage or passages to examine, develop its revision narrative, encode a manuscript page relevant to that narrative in valid TEI, document the challenges the group faced and any solutions to those challenges, and share the revision narrative and account of challenges in a group presentation at our final meeting of the semester. Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this module you should
- Understand the difference between modeling manuscript alterations and modeling an author’s revision process
- Be able to build and share a revision narrative, together with your group, about the set of alterations to Walden your group has chosen to study
- Be able to create a simple, valid TEI file modeling selected alterations to a Walden manuscript page your group has chosen to study
Dates and Activities
Monday, April 13
- We’ll discuss the workflow for your group projects.

Wednesday, April 15
- Group project work in class. Your group should name itself and decide on a passage or passages in Walden to investigate. Before the end of class, share your name and selection of passage(s) in Teams.
Class work: In your folder for 4-15, share your journal file for the day with notes on the progress of your group project. What passage(s) did your group decide to investigate? How/why did your group make this choice?
Friday, April 17
- Group project work in class. In your group’s Teams channel, begin filling out the project plan that you find there. Your plan should show your breakdown of tasks, the lead for each task, and milestone dates for each task.

Monday, April 20
- Group project work in class. Identify which Walden manuscript page you plan to encode in TEI and indicate your choice in your Teams channel.

Friday, April 24

Monday, April 27
